Can a T-Shirt lead to a sale?
Today when I was getting dressed, I wasn’t sure if I should put on a solid color polo or one of my many “Got 401k?” T Shirts.
I decided to go with the T-Shirt since I didn’t have any Zoom meetings today.
My office in downtown Sarasota is exactly 10 miles away by bike.
See I bought an e-bike earlier in the year when gas prices were spiking and traffic from the “snowbirds” was terrible down here.
I am fortunate to live extremely close to the “Legacy Bike Trail”.
And the bike trail just added an extension near my house, allowing me to bike to work, instead of taking my car.
During “season”, it is actually quicker for me to ride my bike than to take my car.
90% of the commute is on the trail. Are very pleasant ride.
The last 10% is on Main Street in Downtown Sarasota.
As I was waiting at a stop light on Main Street, a landscaping pickup truck was next to me.
The young man looked at my shirt and asked “what does that mean”?
I told him that I have a company that helps people know exactly how to invest in their 401k plans.
He said that is really interesting, because a couple of months ago he setup a 401k plan for his company and his employees.
He said the person that set it up told him they are not allowed to tell the employees how to invest their money.
The best they could do is provide them “education”, but they are prohibited from providing any “advice”.
I told him that we can easily provide him, and any one of his employees, the exact advice on what to buy/sell in their plan.
He was sold and asked for my card.
All of this took place in less than two minutes before our light turned green.
All because I chose not to wear a polo today and wear a T Shirt.
The moral of the story is to ALWAYS let people know what you do in any “fashion” you can!
(don’t hate me for that pun)
Stay confident my friends!
