Drive from Sarasota to Chicago

This weekend, I drove (like I do every summer) from Sarasota, FL to Chicago. It’s my annual pilgrimage to where I grew up. My daughter loves to “road trip” with me and spend time with her friends in the “old neighborhood”. I like to eat at my favorite restaurants, catch up with friends and former clients, and make new connections.

I have made this drive no less than 40 times over the past eight years. I know the routes. I know how to time my trip to get me through the traffic “hot spots” at the right times. I know what hotels to stay at and which truck stops have the best coffee and the cleanest bathrooms (which is really important on a road trip)!

HOWEVER, I use the GPS/MapA feature on my phone every time!

Why?

Because even though I have a plan, I know the route and I am comfortable doing the long drive, something could go wrong. There could be a car accident. There could be construction. There could be something up ahead of me that I can’t see that can really delay my time or cause me to sit impatiently, not moving (which is a cardinal sin on any road trip).

See, I use technology to keep me moving toward my destination. I can’t tell you how many times my phone told me to get off the highway well in advance and take an alternate route around an incident. (It seems to happen a lot around Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA).

Just because I had a goal (drive 1200 miles to Chicago) and a plan (the route I need to drive to get there) didn’t mean that something couldn’t get in the way of my goal. So, I used modern technology to make changes to my plan, never my goal. I was always moving forward to my goal. Even if I had to take an alternate route for awhile. I was never sitting impatiently in traffic. I had the extra added confidence of knowing I have a goal and a plan and technology meant to alter my plan if needed.

But never, ever altering my goal/destination!

And, that my friends, is exactly what our technology does for your retirement goals!

Stay safe and healthy my friends!
